Summer Sippers

The weather is grey, the Wimbledon lawn is being mowed and the England cricket top order have collapsed. English summer is here.

Below we’ll uncover a crisp white, a quaffable rosé and a fruity red, all perfect for the sunny (ish) season.

Rosé
We must start with the pink and a nod to beach bars around Europe selling overpriced bottles of celebratory endorsed rosé to burnt Brits.

But there are some crackers on the market.  For more info on how rosé is made, read Pretty in Pink blog.

With outdoor pizza ovens being trendy, try Palm Par L'Escarelle from Provence with a tuna pizza.

“Tastes like a bowl of fresh summer strawberries”

White
With its high acidity and touch of fizz, Muscadet pairs perfectly with grilled seafood and salty picnic snacks.

Try La Roche Blanche with some garlicy, grilled prawns or calamari.

“Tastes like a flattened prosecco with a squeeze of lemon”

Red
Light in body and with fresh red fruit flavours, the Chilean Pinot Noir is perfect for the summer months.

Something so fruity can easily be chilled and still explode with flavour.

Try Santa Macarena with some barbequed pork chops.

“Tastes like a summer berry strudel covered in vanilla custard”

Some other refreshing wines to try this June:

Baron de Badassière, Picpoul de Pinet - France

“Tastes like a zippy pear and green apple sour shot”

Funkstille, Grüner Veltliner - Austria

“Tastes like an exotic melon and lemon ice lolly”

Ribbonwood, Sauvignon Blanc – New Zealand

“Tastes like a gooseberry and grapefruit smoothie sprinkled with lemon zest”
